Five types of water-based synthetic leather

Water based surface treatment synthetic leather

This type of water-based leather simply replaces the surface treatment layer with a water-based surface treatment agent. Although this synthetic leather cannot be called fully water-based synthetic leather, its significance is still significant.

Because the style of synthetic leather mainly relies on surface treatment, the solvents used in surface treatment agents are not only diverse, but also mostly difficult to recycle, causing environmental damage even exceeding DMF. If this part is fully water-based, its impact will also be enormous. In addition, there are dozens of styles of synthetic leather, such as Crazy Horse, Sheep Ba, Polishing, etc., which are key components of synthetic leather matching. Only a variety of water-based treatment agents can better meet market demand.

Water based dry synthetic leather

The key to this type of water-based leather is to replace the dry coating and adhesive layer with a water-based resin coating and adhesive layer. This type of water-based leather is relatively easy to achieve. Although there may be various problems encountered in technical applications, they can be basically overcome. This is also one of the most mass-produced categories in water-based synthetic leather currently.

Water based semi PU synthetic leather

The key to this type of water-based leather is to use PVC foam layer as the bottom layer and water-based PU resin as the surface layer.

Compared with water-based dry synthetic leather, this type of water-based leather has an additional layer of PVC foam, making it feel better than ordinary water-based dry synthetic leather. It is also one of the currently high-performance water-based synthetic leather. Combining some advantages of PVC leather and PU leather. This is also one of the most mass-produced categories in water-based synthetic leather, mainly used in sofa leather and other fields.

Water based wet synthetic leather

This type of water-based leather can essentially be divided into two types, one is to replace the traditional DMF foaming layer with water-based foaming resin. This technology is essentially a dry process, but because it uses water-based resin mechanical foaming, a foam layer with a bubble structure (spherical closed cell foam) made by physical methods is used to replace solvent based foam layers. Because it is a foam layer, but the base fabric has not been impregnated and has not formed a vertical cell structure similar to that formed after DMF precipitation (vertical cells), it can only be called a "wet imitation" method. However, due to physical foaming, there are certain issues with the uniformity and stability of foam cells in mass production. At present, this type of water-based synthetic leather has been mass-produced to a certain extent, but further exploration and improvement are needed for large-scale application. However, some companies have claimed that the technology has made a breakthrough.

Another type is PU leather made by using solvent-free PU resin as the foaming layer and water-based resin as the surface layer. This is also a category with great prospects for future development.
